Did you know that the CLEP test can give you college credits for a fraction of the cost of regular college courses? Currently CLEP tests cost around $80 each, but you probably know that military members can take the CLEP test for free, and veterans can use their GI Bill to pay for tests.
Well now you can also get free online CLEP preparatory courses and materials, and if you are active duty you can basically get enough credit towards a degree to get your entire freshman year of college for free.
Modern States Education Alliance, a philanthropy dedicated to making a college degree more affordable and accessible, created a program called “Freshman Year for Free” to provide free online training designed to help people pass CLEP tests and virtually get enough credits to complete their college freshman year for free. The program uses the leading online learning platform founded by Harvard and MIT.
The courses are specifically designed to help students prepare for the CLEP test and are taught by professors from Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Rutgers and other top schools. By earning an entire freshman year for free, college tuition can be reduced by up to 25 percent.
Currently there are more than 40 online core freshman courses available for absolutely no cost. These courses are accessible online or through a phone app, meaning they can be taken by anyone, anytime and anywhere – convenient for those on active duty working at their own pace while overseas.
Each course includes online lectures, quizzes, tests, and other features. Textbooks and materials are also provided online, free of charge. The courses are available to everyone, not just active-duty members and veterans, so if you have family members attending college, or planning to, you should look into the program. You could potentially save thousands of dollars.
